“Hope Springs Eternal”

In this moving episode of Artists in Action, we bear witness to “Hope Springs Eternal” — an interdisciplinary, artistic collaboration with Mélange Dance Company, Delachaise Ensemble, photographer Bryan Tarnowski, Climate Clock, Heather Bird Harris, and RISE St. James.

Dancers Adrienne Simmons, Cailyn O’Hara, Edward Spotts, Elyssa Fonicello, Lauren Saizan, and Nicole Buckels used their bodies, music and writing from Willow Defebaugh to exchange energy with natural materials from plantations that are now owned by Formosa Plastics.

Attendees didn’t just get a show. After their performance dancers went to the audience with mud paint and brushes, encouraging them to paint the canvas with Earth.

The community-painted mud work masterpiece will be raffled off and proceeds will go to RISE St. James.

Special thanks to Rise St. James Chief Operating Officer Shamyra Lavigne for narrating this video.
